TUCSON, Ariz. –Arizona Arts Live at the University of Arizona proudly announces the return of The Tucson Studio, a visionary music project designed to showcase Southern Arizona’s most compelling musical voices. Relaunching this summer, The Tucson Studio pays tribute to Tucson’s vibrant music scene and its unique place within the cultural landscape of the Southwest.
Originally launched in 2020 as a creative lifeline for musicians affected by the pandemic, The Tucson Studio gave local artists a platform to create, perform, and share their work during a time of deep uncertainty. Since then, the project has evolved into a dynamic celebration of the region’s sonic identity, where tradition meets experimentation, and new voices emerge.
“The Tucson Studio was born out of crisis, but its future is about discovery,” said Chad Herzog, Executive and Artistic Director of Arizona Arts Live. “We’re doubling down on our belief that Southern Arizona is home to some of the most exciting and under-recognized musical talent in the country. This relaunch is a commitment to amplifying artists who reflect the spirit and complexity of our community, artists whose stories deserve to be heard far beyond our borders.”
Beginning this summer, Arizona Arts Live will feature a series of intimate, in-person performances at beloved and unexpected locations around Tucson. Each performance will be professionally recorded and released online, providing artists with both a stage and a studio-quality showcase of their work.
The Tucson Studio will kick off on June 20 at 6:30 PM inside the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium, featuring Space Travelers Union, a collective led by Ryan Wheless dedicated to pushing the boundaries of acoustic and electronic fusion. This one-night event will also include a collaboration with projection artist Tucker Grams as the planetarium is transformed into an experimental canvas for deep listening and exploration.
